Hartford, CT – HEDCO, INC, a leading nonprofit CDFI, microfinance institution dedicated to promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment, is proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary on March 25, 2025. Since its inception in 1975, HEDCO, Inc. has been at the forefront of providing microloans and financial services to underserved communities, transforming lives and communities, creating long-term growth and resilient advancement across the State of Connecticut.

Over the past five decades, HEDCO, Inc. has disbursed over 1497 microloans, totaling more than $87,268,908 and 930 grants, totaling more than $10,689,787 to low-income entrepreneurs, small business owners, and individuals who lack access to traditional financial services. Providing access to financial tools have not only helped recipients start and expand their businesses but have also contributed to job creation, improved living standards, and economic resilience in some of the state’s most vulnerable communities.

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we reflect on the incredible journey that has brought us here,” said Kim Hawkins, President, and CEO of HEDCO. “Our mission has always been to provide financial opportunities to those who are often overlooked by mainstream financial institutions. We are deeply grateful to our partners, supporters, and the communities we serve for their trust and collaboration over the years.”

In commemoration of this milestone, HEDCO, Inc. will be hosting a series of events, including:

• 50th Anniversary Gala: A special event to honor our founders, supporters, and the many individuals who have contributed to our success over the years. The gala will feature keynote speakers, including notable figures in the microfinance and non-profit sectors, as well as success stories from our loan recipients.
• Community Impact Day: A day dedicated to volunteering and giving back to the communities that have supported us. Employees, partners, and volunteers will join hands in various community service projects to celebrate our shared achievements.
• Social Justice Day: A day dedicated to bridging gaps and building alliances throughout our great state.
• Digital Campaign: Launch of a multimedia campaign that will highlight the transformative impact of microloans on individuals and communities, showcasing personal stories from borrowers across the state.

Looking ahead, HEDCO, Inc. is committed to expanding its reach and impact. With plans to expand its footprint, increase its loan portfolio, develop new financial products, and enhance its educational programs, the organization aims to empower even more people to achieve economic independence and stability in the next 50 years.
